Mary Austin RD, MA, CDE
Immediate Past-President, American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE)
Mary Austin,RD,MA,CDE,is immediate Past-President of the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE), a multidisciplinary organization of more than 11,000 healthcare professionals dedicated to providing and advocating quality diabetes self-management training (DSMT). She is also active with the American Dietetic Association, which honored her with its Distinguished Service Award in 1999. She is employed by the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan, as the research dietitian for the National Institutes of Health (NIH)- funded Action to Control Cardiovascular Risks of Diabetes (ACCORD) research trial.



Richard M Bergenstal MD
Executive Director, International Diabetes Center
Richard M Bergenstal, MD, is Executive Director of the International Diabetes Center at Park Nicollet, and is also an endocrinologist. He is Senior Vice- President at the Park Nicollet Institute and sits on the board of directors for the Minnesota Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Dr Bergenstal received his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, and is board-certified in both endocrinology and internal medicine. He is the author of more than 100 clinical articles and bstracts, and lectures nationally and internationally on diabetes issues.



Nathaniel G Clark MS, MD, RD
Vice-President of Clinical Affairs, American Diabetes Association (ADA)
Nathaniel G Clark, MS, MD, RD, is the National Vice- President of Clinical Affairs for the American Diabetes Association (ADA), and continues to care for patients with diabetes part-time as a staff endocrinologist at MedStar Clinical Research Institute and the Children?s National Medical Center, both in Washington,DC. Prior to joining the ADA, Dr Clark served as Associate Director of the Vermont Regional Diabetes Center, and was Associate Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Vermont College of Medicine.He oversees the development and continuing revision of its clinical practice guidelines for the ADA.



Gerard Doherty MD
Secretary, International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES)
Gerard Doherty, MD, is Secretary for the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES). He joined the faculty at Washington University in St Louis in 1993, rising to Professor of Surgery and then becoming the NW Thompson Professor of Surgery, Chief of Endocrine Surgery, and Head of General Surgery at the University of Michigan in 2002. Dr Doherty?s interests have been in the breadth of endocrine surgery. He attended Holy Cross College and Yale Medical School, prior to surgical training at the University of California, San Francisco, and trained in endocrine surgery and surgical oncology at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH).



Anne-Marie Felton
Co-founder and Chair, Federation of European Nurses in Diabetes (FEND)
Anne-Marie Felton is Co-founder and Chair of the Federation of European Nurses in Diabetes (FEND). She has been a diabetes specialist nurse for more than 20 years and is an honorary consultant at Queen Mary?s Hospital, Roehampton. She also works in the voluntary sector pro bono. Ms Felton was appointed Vice-President of Diabetes UK in 1999 and has been a member of the Diabetes UK Advisory Council since 2002. She is also a member of the Diabetes Education Study Group (DESG) working group Basic Curriculum for Health Professionals on Diabetes Therapeutic Education and of the University of Surrey Roehampton/Chelsea and Westminster Hospital teaching faculty for the MSc in diabetes programme, as well as a board member of the International Diabetes Foundation (IDF) Diabetes Education Consultative Section (DECS). Ms Felton serves on the editorial boards of Practical Diabetes International and European Diabetes Nursing and the review board of the International Diabetes Monitor. She has been a keynote speaker at many iInternational conferences and is co-author of the World Health Organization (WHO) therapeutic patient education (TPE) report.



Andrea Riccardo Genazzani
President, International Society of Gynecological Endocrinology (ISGE)
Andrea Riccardo Genazzani is President of the International Society of Gynecological Endocrinology (ISGE). He is also Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Pisa. He is President of the European Society for Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation (ESGOI), Past President of the International Menopause Society (IMS) and was a member of the Scientific and Ethical Review Group of the World Health Organization (WHO) special program Research, Development and Training in Human Reproduction from 1998 to 2002. Professor Genazzani is a member of various scientific international and national societies and a fellow ad eundem of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He is Editor-in-Chief of Gynecological Endocrinology and Editor of Maturitas and was Assistant Editor of the European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology from 2000 to 2003. He has authored more than 537 papers in peer-reviewed journals.



Ashley Grossman
President, European Neuroendocrine Association (ENA)
Ashley Grossman is President of the European Neuroendocrine Association (ENA). He is Professor of Neuroendocrinology and Consultant Physician in the Department of Endocrinology at St Bartholomew?s Hospital, London. Professor Grossman is a fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, Past Editor of Clinical Endocrinology and on the editorial board of the major textbook De Groot and Jameson?s Endocrinology, and many journals. He has published nearly 500 research papers and reviews and has a particular interest in pituitary and hypothalamic tumours, endocrine oncology and the molecular pathogenesis of neuroendocrine tumours. Professor Grossman graduated with an MBBS and a BSc in neuroscience from the University College Hospital Medical School in London, having previously obtained a BA in psychology and social anthropology from the University of London.



Anthony A M Heagerty
Immediate Past-President, European Society of Hypertension (ESH)
Anthony A M Heagerty is Immediate- Past President of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) and is based at Manchester Royal Infirmary. He is a fellow of the American Heart Association (AHA) and an international fellow of the Council for High Blood Pressure (CHBPR). In 1990, he was appointed Professor of Medicine at the University of Manchester and he became a British Heart Foundation (BHF) Senior Research Fellow in 1988. Professor Heagerty has delivered lectures at the American Society of Hypertension (ASH) and the ESH and is a member of the editorial boards of a number of cardiovascular journals, including Hypertension and the Journal of Hypertension. He has published more than 200 papers, chapters and books. He has been Officer at Large on the council of the ESH and has been elected to the council of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) in London.



Eugene Hughes
Chairman, Primary Care Diabetes (PDC) Europe
Eugene Hughes is Chairman of Primary Care Diabetes (PCD) Europe and works as a general practitioner in Ryde, Isle of Wight. He joined the executive of PCD Europe in 2002 and has organised recent conferences in Stockholm and Paris. Dr Hughes was one of the founders of Primary Care Diabetes UK and he served on its committee for six years, being involved in conference organisation. He has been the editor of Diabetes & Primary Care since it was first published in 1999 and has written many articles and editorials on diabetes, particularly relating to service delivery and early management of type 2 diabetes. He continues to lecture widely on diabetes-related topics. Dr Hughes qualified from Guy?s Hospital in 1979.
